Art on Display behind the glass showcase at RCC

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

I still have all these prints maybe I can scan them and make digital copies to reprint someday? I made a book with my senior project which was mailed to the college in 2017. I think I included the last image in the book as so many people loved it? I remember that I was too descriptive with my titles and that I did not need to write anything more. Photographs can tell a story without words. There is a quote a picture can tell a thousand words without speaking. To become a visual artist is to communicate through design but I also believe being paid to speak or sing is also an art form. I am glad that I did more than just Photography after I graduated again. I reflected the other night about becoming an RCC student again I will write it below. The first display was from my first art show I loved taking sports photography indoor skydiving is fun to capture and watch. This was on display December 19, 2016 I wrote that I was feeling excited with the superstar cool emoji. I will have to search for a missing display photograph of 3 images. I did a total of 4 displays at RCC.

I wrote an essay about this display above I will add it later. Here is my reflection about this series on display and my feelings in general. My first art showing at Rockland Community College. My alumni college makes students feel good. They boost self esteem and want students to evolve and become great. They promote successful academics to push student strengths. So, they want students to get to their full potential. SUNY RCC is the best Community College in our nation. The motto use to be, Start Here & Go Anywhere! When I graduated the first time in 2012 my Aunt said why would a Elected important powerful politician speak at just a community college? She has looked down on all others except her children her entire life. There was comparison and judging and the sabotage of family to make her offspring look the best. There will be more in my book. Because of the complicated dynamics of screwed up relationships it’s too in-depth for a blog.

Anyhow, here was my first art photography even displayed. Even though it was just a gallery wall and inside the Art department division it was powerful. My first image was from my Black & White Photography course. I went to a local gym near the photography business that I went to at the time. I captured the boxing equipment and remembered one of my ancestors in Germany who was a famous boxer. I even took a boxing class sometime after which if I can find the photos I will include them with this blog post.

I found the photoshoot from my 3 day trial I got at a street festival and I will post the Photoshoot in a new blog as I had many images.

My second image was of a martini called the Yanktini it was at this Manhattan Restaurant where the Yankees baseball team was promoted. I think it was blue run and something else it’s rare to celebrate and have a drink with classmates. I never had time for myself as life was 24/7 college and my kids. I had zero time for anything else. This was a mandated field trip to Moma I believe it was an amazing place. The best field trip though hands down was the New York City Photography show. I remember my camera kept making a zapping sound and not connecting to take that drink photo. My classmate laughed our head off for so long. We don’t even know what was happening. It was most likely the low lighting at the restaurant? I always love greens, blues, and teal. This drink brought my imagination to the Caribbean Island nations. I believe the drink was inspired by the place the Yankees train and vacation at. There is an article about Curaçao being a baseball paradise. My Dad played the minor leagues when I was 2-4 years old and could have made it if he didn’t have to work 12/7. My third image was of a sparkler that I placed on a paper boat I put on fire for some epic photos. I lived on property that had a small river creek it often was calm and serene setting. I managed to get a few photo until the owners stopped cutting the grass for access. They watched everything I did from topless sunbathing to my photography outdoors. Why were they looking at me? They all lived across the street. My name, address, and photo was in the 50th anniversary book of the college. They were angry I was published and didn’t want to be known for what was to come. This will also be part of my book. I loved how the sparkler made a heart shape and I gave a copy to my crush with the Curaçao inspired drink.

My work on display... 3 photographs from Fall 2017.

“It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer. You need less imagination to be a painter because you can invent things, but in photography... it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary.”

- David Bailey

December 22, 2016 I wrote Officially done:)

This was the last project for a design course I forgot the name of it. But, we had to make designs out of paper all semester even a shoe. That rose gold plane was Neimus Marcus fantasy gift I loved the design it was my dream plane.

I was so proud of my last 2 project in ceramics. Wheel throwing was hard and we only had 2 weeks to learn it. I wish we had another semester to make stuff but they didn't offer advanced ceramics.

I am still looking for the uncensored images from this photoshoot off campus. My friend wanted to do extra work and got the loaner equipment from the college. The model Star okay her images for use as did the other model on campus. I have the original prints and negatives and files somewhere. Anyhow, my friends relative had an open house for sale so we shot there without anything distracting us in an empty house. We always worked with live nude models at RCC. After taking drawing 101 we always drew live models 4 hours a day this was to me the human body as an art form. But, there are various opinions about this but when you learn how to draw the human form it's just a human body. I feel the people who overly sexualize nudity as anything other than a form of art in the appropriate settings are not educated in the arts field.
